That’s up to you. As an advisor, we can’t give you the answers. We don’t know how you want your relationship to work. What we do is guide you through the process of creating an Operating Agreement. We can’t decide on your behalf how your relationship is going to work. The only people that can do that, are you, the business partners.
For that reason, the amount of time that it takes for partners to go through our Partnership Charter Process really depends on them.
A large business that depends on this process or might otherwise fail may decide to get together on a four-day retreat and get this entire process done during that long weekend. That’s not impossible, and in fact it is advisable for people who need to “hold themselves under the gun” and get the deal done. Sometimes it’s easier to find a four-day weekend than it is to find individual time spread out.
Other business owners take weeks or months to get this together. Let’s face it; it’s not easy to always be a business owner who manages the business, and works in the business. It takes time, and we all want to have time for friends, family, and personal care.
So with that in mind, we recommend that business partners start out by setting their own schedule. Build a plan, put on the calendar, and stick to it. Again, this is sometimes easier said than done, but with a plan, at least it’s clear what everyone can expect.
